Supported tours featuring Stelvio
The Legendary Cols Tour includes not only Stelvio, but four other ‘bucket list’ climbs: Ventoux, Alpe d’Huez, Galibier & Tourmalet in a single 11 night / 12 day fully supported trip.
Whilst in Italy this tour also features two other classic climbs, Gavia & Mortirolo, the latter being one of the steepest in Europe. For those wishing to avoid its double digit gradient there is an alternative less challenging route to its summit.
Our Icons of Italy Tour culminates with the classic Stelvio but features many other great climbs on the way. First stop is Monte Grappa followed by the Sella Ronda area featuring all the climbs along the famous Maratona dles Dolomites route.
Cycle Passo dello Stelvio
Stelvio is one of cycling’s truly legendary cols. The Giro first crossed its 2758m summit in 1953 and it has featured many times in subsequent years. As the highest road pass in Italy and the highest stage finish of any Grand Tour, Stelvio deserves the utmost respect.
The classic approach with its much photographed 48 hairpins is from Prato in the east. This unrelenting climb gains over 1800m in its 24.6km length. Whilst the first 8km are relatively gentle the remaining climb averages around 8.5% to the summit.
