Supported tours featuring Mont Ventoux
The Legendary Cols Tour includes not only Mt Ventoux, but four other ‘bucket list’ climbs: Stelvio, Alpe d’Huez, Galibier & Tourmalet in a single 11 night / 12 day fully supported trip.
This tour also features the opportunity to join the exclusive Club des Cingles du Mont Ventoux which roughly translates as “the club for the Madmen of Ventoux”, by completing three ascents in a single day, once from each of Bedoin, Malaucene & Sault.
Mont Ventoux is the final climb in this epic, week long tour of iconic Tour de France cols. Starting in Morzine the tour features 10 Alpine classics: Alpe d’Huez, Galibier, Telegraphe, Izoard, Bonette, Madeleine, Glandon, Colombiere, Joux Plane culminating in Provence with Mont Ventoux. The tour runs twice in 2018, choose either 29 July to 5 Aug or 2 to 9 September.
Cycle Mont Ventoux
Mont Ventoux, the ‘Giant of Provence’, an icon amongst icons. It stands alone, dominating everything for miles around. From afar it looks snow-capped but that’s an illusion created by the bare limestone which covers the surface above the tree line.
The classic and most difficult climb is from Bedoin; the ascent from Malaucene is of similar gradient but is better sheltered from the wind. The easiest route is from Sault to the east because it starts at a higher altitude and is longer in distance.
From Bedoin the climb measures 21.3km with 1603m ascent to give an average of 7.5%. The first 6km however are only 3.9% which means the remaining 16km average 8.9% with no let up at all and that’s what makes Ventoux such a revered challenge.
